Chinese Character Sheets

On this page you will find Downloadable Excel Sheets for the Characters from each of the Mandarin Matrix Levels. Mandarin Matrix has five different levels- If your child is in a Dual Immersion program that uses Mandarin Matrix they should have covered these characters(and more) during K-5th grades. Whether they retained them depends on the teacher and the child’s comprehension of the characters.

Novice 3(Fourth Grade)

Intermediate 1(Fifth Grade)

I have color coded each level so you can easily distinguish between them.

For each MMX level I have created 3 different Excel Sheets. The first sheet contains only Chinese Characters. You can print this one out to test your child on which characters they can correctly identify. The second sheet has both characters and pinyin (pinyin is how Chinese characters are pronouced in English- it is also used to input characters into a computer using western keyboard). This second sheet may be used as a companion to the first sheet to check your child’s knowledge of the characters. The third sheet has characters, pinyin, and basic English definitions. If you hover over the pinyin on the third sheet you will find that each pinyin entry has been hyperlinked to take you to a dictionary page. The dictionary page has a stroke order video which your child can use to practice writing the character, as well as giving audio for the correct pronunciation and tone of the character.
